… where you’re the workhorse but you get zero credit? Well I happen to have one of those. I work with a team of people, and yet I am the only one that doesn’t gets any recognition for doing the job right.
WTF?!
I’m not the one screwing stuff up, but I get the wrath when they fail. Out of a team of 12, I am the only one that’s not being recognized. At first thought you’d think, much as I did, that my work isn’t up to par, or I’ve made some big mistakes. That’s not it.
I bust my ass just as hard as everyone else, and in some cases harder. I am the only person who does what I do, and I’m the first one overlooked.
Meritocracy?
Fuck that. Apparently merit is given not earned within this company. I am going to look for another job where I’ll be unappreciated at a better pay scale.
Bitch, I didn’t invite you into this conversation…
Grrrrrrrr, I am so fucking tired of people stepping in and trying to do my job, trying to tell me how things that I am responsible for are going to be done, and I think I’ll kick the next person who talks over me in a meeting right in the fucking head!
Again, why did they hire me?!
Well, let me tell ya (again). Because I know what the fuck I am doing! (Besides, why didn’t you get the job then, hmmm?) I’d like to show you that I know what I am doing, but you won’t let me. Oh well, maybe someday, I’ll finally get my big break.
Here’s more on my wishlist:
Freedom to use my talent as necessary
Authority to have control over my responsibilities
Others to shut the fuck up and listen
Pretty simple, eh? (I need to be a creative director.)
I have stuff to do, lots of stuff to do, and it all hinges on getting the information I need to go forward. Why is it people make you wait? I hate it! I am far too efficient for this shit. If only I were given full access to the things needed, I’d have everything on a fast track to completion.
Don’t be a dick
Now let’s just imagine you drive cars for NASCAR. You’re expected to go forward. So why the hell are you in reverse?
It’s ok to lose some control, really. It’s called trust and if you can’t trust someone you work with, you shouldn’t be working with anyone.
My suggestion
Get a grip! If you can’t, get a new job. Maybe you could be a field researcher or work for the Secret Service. That stuff is highly confidential, but keeping your writer in the know isn’t.
Ok, ok, I know that just because I happen to be a writer I tend to take offense to criticism, but this is a bit different.
What do you do when someone wants your job?
Worse, they aren’t even qualified to do what you do. They don’t know what makes people read because they don’t read and who cares about grammar and spelling when you’re ESL, right?
So lets just say you work for a company and in this company you’re in charge of making decisions regarding the type of content needed at any given moment to attract more readership… You, being the crazy dreamer you are, come up with some fantastic ideas, so fantastic that the competition hadn’t (keyword) even thought about it. You joyfully present your ideas, expecting a pat on the back at least and BAM! Shot down.
Why?
No reason really. So being this dumb little puppy aiming to please you increase the intensity and greatness of your ideas and this is when they start ignoring you.
Huh?
You have a talent that in reality very few people can even grasp a corner of. Writing is NOT something everyone can do. Well, let me rephrase that, they can, but not well and sometimes it’s just downright illegible. Let’s face it, you deserve a pat on the back and you deserve some respect. So next time that whoever-they-wannabe tries to throw you under the bus in front of your colleagues. Just remember who you are and move on.
Well, if you couldn’t get an idea from the blog title, it’s about bitching. Yep, you heard me. I plan to bitch all the time on this blog. So, if bitching isn’t your thing, get outta here!
